Does anyone have a recommendation for a workout tracking app? I'm using an iPhone and Apple Watch, and for anything cardio related, their native fitness app does the trick. What I don't like is their weight lifting 'workout'. All it really does is record the duration and heart-rate - there doesn't appear to be a way to record how many reps or sets of any specific exercise or even the weight.

Planet Fitness's app lets you pick the exercise and a duration you've worked out in 10 minute increments and lets you assign an intensity (light or moderate), but doesn't let you get specific about the sets, reps, or weight... and those exercises aren't represented well through its integration with Apple Fitness.

I'm looking for something that will let me track the exercise, weight, sets, reps, and intensity (a scale?) so I can chart my progress over time. Preferably it would work with Apple Watch so I don't have carry my phone with me. Any ideas?

Hi All,

So I’m down a 90lbs which feels great, but I think my progress is stalling a bit and I’m getting bummed because it’s summer and I don’t quite have the beach bod I was hoping for.

Work has been a killer (I mean a full on grizzly bear who just woke up from hibernation!) and I have had little to no time to get any exercise outside of walking a few miles around the park on Tuesday nights while my daughter is at lacrosse practice. That’s it. The rest of the week, when I finally I hang it up for the day (after 12-14 hours a day, 6 days a week lately) I’m spent mentally and emotionally and don’t want to do anything but check out and stare at the tv. I’m barely able to get 4000 steps a day because I’m tied to a computer screen and conference calls. Someone please call the Whaaaambulance?

Even with that, my body composition is definitely improving. My moobs haven’t gone away yet (not sure they ever will 😕), but I definitely have some pecs under there somewhere. My clothes are all too big and I don’t get winded just walking up the stairs. So there is improvement.

So my question is this. Do I just bite the bullet and join a 24 hour gym? I’ve never followed any sort of exercise plan, much less lifted weights. Am I letting all this testosterone I’ve got coursing through me go to waste by not taking advantage of it at the gym? How the hell do I get started? I want to continue losing weight but being a bit buff would be pretty cool too, right?

I think the things holding me back are

1. I have no idea what type of exercise i should be doing other than cardio and resistance.

2. I’m afraid of failing and giving up

3. I am 1001% sure it will hurt

4. I don’t want to be the butt of anyone’s jokes. “Hey, look at the fatass. He can’t even do 5 pushups!”

5. The unknown. Yes it’s true, I have fear of not knowing shit.

Have any of you experience this? Did you overcome it? How did you do it? Did you get a personal trainer? What was the return on investment, meaning was it worth it? Are you able to keep it up? Is it something you look forward to?

My buddy, John, who is also on TRT, said f-it one day and joined a gym. Now his flipping arms are as big as mine were at my heaviest, but there’s no fat on ‘em… I just can’t seem to make a decision and take the plunge.

What can I do to give myself a swift kick in the keister? How do I hold myself accountable? What’s the code, folks?

Hey all,

First time poster, long time listener. Only negative effect I have from TRT is high blood pressure 130/90. I know it isn’t that bad but I normally run low so I’d rather get back in the normal range.

I read somewhere that increasing Vo2 max should help with blood pressure. I’m just regular fellow so I’m not the most knowledgeable but the idea makes sense to me. I guess the idea is to train the heart like a muscle through interval training on a spin bike (I.e. 2min sprint/ 1 min slow for a few rounds). I suppose any type of interval training would do the same as long as it raises the heart rate.

Does this make sense? I plan on doing it anyway as I have more than a few pounds to lose. Just curious.
